Keith Haring

Keith Haring, a graffiti inspired artist, who studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York became well known for his murals depicting cartoon like characters in vibrant colors and frantic motions. Haring was influenced later in life by Andy Warhol (Andy Mouse) and the pop art scene, Harings' more famous works were murals at check point charlie on the Berlin wall along with murals in Paris, Amsterdam and Phoenix. Haring was an openly gay artist who inspired many and gave strength to artists struggling with sexuality. Unfortunately Kieth Haring died in 1990 of Aids but his images live on in current culture. In June 2008 Haring would have been 50 and was Honoured with a retrospective of 200 of his pieces in Terrassa, Spain
