Desiderio is a contemporary realist painter that is represented by Marlborough Gallery. He focuses mainly on figurative subjects that have a particular mood of human suffering and empathy. The figures in the paintings are family members, many of which suffer from a disease. He works in triptych format which he describes as attuned to our times fragmentation of thought and images. Also relies heavily on symbols and their interrelationship within the work. The paintings themselves are traditional oil technique, typically large scale and some take over years to complete. He is senior critic at NYAA in New York.
