Aline Favre

Aline Favre is a contemporary artist who mixes natural forms with a contrast of materials.  Coarse black bases and pure white sculptural pieces are balanced precariously and imply a sense of movement.  Favre's pieces are much like waves of porcelain crashing on beaches of basalt.  Layered clays have a feel of sedimentary collection, catching the motion of a wave from thousands of years ago.  The scale of Favre's work is one that is not quite floor size yet a little to big for a pedestal which brings to light some questions on the work.  Was it the intent to make the work so that it is in limbo or was that not the case at all? With such clean differences and a asymmetrical shape a natural sense is caught in beautiful and elegant way.
