Like him or not, Dave Hickey is one of the most well known contemporary art critics . Dave is infamous for his strong arguments against the role of academics in art. Hickey has authored fiction and music, run art galleries, and lectured extensively around the world. A recipient of the MacArthur Fellows Program"Genius Award" in 2001, Hickey's criticism is generated through personal experiences. Like all other critics, shy is not in Hickey's vocabulary. He is known for his direct "in your face" criticism. Going beyond his personal associations, Dave anticipates and welcomes the experiences of people who may or may not agree with him.
