MF DOOM

Daniel Dumile is a british born American Hip-hop artist who has taken on several stage names in his career, most famously MF Doom. Dumile began to rap at open mic events at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe in 1998 where he withheld his face by putting a stocking over his head. His new identity was influenced by Marvel Comics supervillain Doctor Doom. Dumile wears the mask while performing and isn't photographed without it, except for very short glimpses in a few videos.

Dumile creates socially critical and conscious lyrics based around many of his own experiences of living homeless. Usually the lyrics are a made up narrative that Dumile uses to express points of view.

Talk about your post modern ideas. it reminds me of Jim Morrison who wouldn't face the crowd in the early days of the Doors. I think that Hip-Hop and Rap music have a strong place in today's society. We are influenced in our speech, fashion and political/cultural ideas through the music and poetic arrangements of artists in the field. whether some will admit it or not there is a place in art for Hip-Hop and Rap.

what I think right away.. is Gorillaz which is a stimulated project, created by Damon Albarn (frontman from Blur group) which here is appearing as 2-D animated person. Musically the group is close to hip hop from the old school, but in lyrics layer- they represent the most stupid possibly.
They were created "for moment" - against huge music corporation.. and suddenly became famous.

Not sure what you mean by "lyrics layer" and "stupid possibly", but yes there is a relationship especially in their opposition to the music world that sustains them.

Just to add to the post modern ideas that Dan brings up, as soon as Martyna mentioned the Gorillaz, I couldn't help but think of their venture of having a live "concert." It turned out that the musicians / characters where transmitted on the stages as holograms. What a bizarre experience that must have been to try to align the music that is being funneled from speakers with the 3D real-time animation...simulacra?
