Toshiko Takaezu

Toshiko Takaezu is a ceramic artist that was born Hawaii in the early part of the 20th century.  Takaezu’s medium to large scale,  wheel thrown sculptures are vessels of her natural surroundings.  She believes that cooking and growing vegetables is just as natural as making her sculptures.  The treatment of the surfaces shows dramatic landscapes, in a subtle manner, of her childhood.  The large forms, when displayed outside, show the true organic aesthetic of her work thru the gentle curves and soft surfaces.  Takaezu’s work is collected around the world and she is indeed a current master.
